SAR Prostate Cancer DFP



The SAR Prostate Cancer Disease-Focused Panel will collaborate with urologists, oncologists, radiation oncologists and other groups to improve the care of patients with known or suspected prostate cancer through the clinical incorporation of optimized imaging techniques for prostate cancer detection, staging and treatment.



1. Establish a formal collaboration with the AUA (American Urological Association) to produce a joint statement incorporating prostate MRI into clinical guidelines.

2. Create educational materials for radiologists and urologists in imaging of prostate cancer.

          Preliminary work in contacting liaisons at the AUA to ensure interest and
          feasibility of this project has been done.

The DFP will be organized by Subcommittees as follows:

  1. Clinical practice subcommittee chair: Dan Margolis, MD
  2. Education subcommittee chair: Adam Froemming, MD
  3. Liaison for multi-center trials: Antonio Westphalen, MD 
    The role of this liaison will be to inform and involve the prostate DFP members in any multi-institutional prostate cancer imaging trials.
  4. Liaison for ACR PIRADS steering committee: Baris Turkbey, MD 
    The role of this liason will be to link SAR membership and ACR for future developments and changes in the ACR PIRADS.
  5. Liaison for ESUR and ECR: Jurgen Futterer, MD  
    The role of this liason will be to inform the SAR membership and the European societies for prostate cancer related activities.
  6. Liaison for social media: Baris Turkbey, MD and Lori Mankowski Gettle, MD                                   The role of this liaison will be to maintain the Prostate DFP's Twitter page and to represent the DFP in other matters related to social media. 

UPDATE (2/1/2016):

- An initial draft of a joint white between the DFP and the AUA regarding prostate MRI in the negative-biopsy population has been completed and is currently in the review process.


- The prostate MRI special focus issue of Abdominal Radiology, under the direction of DFP member Adam Froemming, has been completed and will be published soon.
